The program promotes Natural Resource Management, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood enhancement in line with communities’ priorities on rural development and environmental sustainability. It focuses on soil and water conservation, climate-resilient farming, and income diversification to improve productivity, strengthen livelihoods, and enhance resilience of small and marginal farmers, especially women and tribal communities.
2.1. Soil & Water Conservation
The program implements a watershed-based soil and water conservation approach to reduce runoff and soil erosion, enhance in-situ moisture, and improve groundwater recharge through interventions such as contour bunding, CCTs, check dams, farm ponds, and water harvesting structures, leading to improved land productivity and climate resilience.
2.2. Integrated Watershed Management Programme
SGGVSS serves as the Project Implementing Agency (PIA) for the IWMP in Salekasa, covering 37 villages across 17 Gram Panchayats, with a total area of 17,143 ha. The project focuses on integrated, sustainable, and eco-friendly rural development and implements a range of interventions for the welfare of tribal and rural communities, including watershed development, natural resource management, and livelihood enhancement activities.
2.3. Climate-resilient farming, & Livelihood
The program promotes climate-resilient farming through improved crop practices, soil management, and diversification, while enhancing rural livelihoods via skill development, value addition, and strengthening SHGs and producer groups, with focus on women, tribal, and smallholder farmers.
2.4. Renewable Energy Integration in Agriculture
The program promotes the use of renewable energy solutions—such as solar-powered irrigation pumps, solar dryers, and biomass-based energy systems—to improve agricultural productivity, reduce energy costs, and enhance sustainability. These interventions help farmers adopt clean, cost-effective, and climate-resilient technologies, while supporting environmental conservation and long-term livelihood resilience.
